La Sportiva Mountain Running Series Calendar – 2 new events for 2015!


2015 La Sportiva Mountain Running Series dates and locations announced.

7 events in Victoria & New South Wales! From the Alps and Blue Mountains to the coastal ruggedness of Wilson’s Prom….

The La Sportiva Mountain Running Series for 2015 consists of 7 favourite events on the Australian trail calendar and now include two of the official Oceania Skyrunning events Mt Buller & Hounslow!

Razorback Run 22/42/64km 14th March

This classic alpine run offers challenging distances in some of the most spectacular country in Victoria’s Alpine National Park. The 64km Razorback Ridge run takes in the entire length of the Razorback and out onto the High Plans to offer some of the most spectacular running and scenery in the Australian Alps. The 42km is the Razorback Circuit climbing up Bungalow Spur, along the Razorback ridge and then descending hard and fast down Bon Accord! The 22km short course is an out and back along the Razorback Ridge! All of the runs take on the summit of Victoria’s second highest mountain Mt Feathertop! Set in the heart of Victoria’s high country the Razorback Run is one of the most amazing high altitude runs that Australia has to offer.

Mount Buller Skyrun 22/36/45km 29th March

The Mount Buller Skyrun offers 3 distances 45, 36 and 22km, all starting and finishing at Mount Buller Alpine Resort. The 45km course is the race for points in the Oceania Series and takes in Mount Stirling, Craigs Hut, a long descent from Mt Stirling along the Delatite River and then a final crushing climb to the summit of Mount Buller itself before an exhilarating 2km descent to the finish line. The 36km course follows the same route but doesn’t go out to Craigs Hut.The short course (22km) starts and finishes at Mt Buller resort and takes in both Mt Stirling & Mt Buller.

Wilson’s Promontory National Park has some of Australia’s most spectacular coastal landscape and offers ultra runners 44, 60, 80 or 100km loops options of the Prom.Experience the sound of waves crashing on rocks, feel the sand under your feet, the wind in your hair and the water up to your waist as you tackle this wilderness paradise. Experience the 12th running of one of Australia’s best coastal trail runs. This run is all on single track, rock, fire trails and beaches offering spectacular coastal views with approximately 10km on sealed road. Depending on tide movements it may be necessary to wade across the creek as well. Due to Parks Victoria regulations numbers are limited to 100! Enter now as it does book up quickly.

Glow Worm Tunnel Trail Marathon Dash / Bolt /21/42km 13th -14th June

A great weekend of trailrunning in the Wolgan Valley including one of Australia’s toughest trail Marathon & Half Marathon! From the challenge of Pipeline Track to the glory of the Glow Worm Tunnel, a superb running experience. The event also includes a Fun Run and Mountain Dash plus kids treasure hunt, catering and entertainment for the whole family.

Hounslow Classic 21/75km 10th -11th October

The Hounslow Classic Ultra SkyMarathon & Skyrun courses takes runners on a tough challenge taking in the award winning trails and scenery of the Grose Valley near Blackheath, NSW.

Starting in the picturesque township of Blackheath, one of the highest villages in the Blue Mountains – the  Hounslow Classic Ultra takes runners of a tour of the Grose Valley for the Ultra it goes past environmental icons such as Blue Gum Forest, Pulpit Rock, Junction Rock and Lockley Pylon. Not to mention the amazing Grand Canyon.

This race is held on virgin territory when it comes to events and is awe inspiring in its scenery as it brings you into some pockets of the world which both amateur and professional photographers travel across the continent to capture.

Lake Mountain Skyrun 14/21/31km 25th October

The 3rd running of the Lake Mountain Alpine Marathon will be a brilliant run for both experienced trail runners and people new to trail running game. The event cover 3 distances 10/24/42 km on a mixture of ski and mountain bike trails in a great alpine environment only a stones throw from Melbourne. If you have always wanted to see the Vic Alps and don’t have the time this is the run for you!

Alpine Challenge 60/100/160km 28th- 30th November

Imagine completing 4 marathons back to back! That is the challenge you could face if you decide to enter the Alpine Challenge 100 miler. The ninth Alpine Challenge Ultra Marathon, incorporating the 100 mile (160km) Alpine Skyrun, the 100km individual and team Alpine Challenge and the 60km Alpine Experience is set  in the Alpine National Park. With over 7,000 metres of ascent and descent, this event is the classic 100 mile mountain trail run in Australia and will test all runners to the limit. The route takes in some of the best, hardest and most exposed high country in Australia including Mt Feathertop, Mt Hotham, The Fainters, Spione Kopje, Mt Nelse and Victoria’s highest mountain, Mt Bogong!
